Samalaju Industrial Park's Growth And Sarawak Willingness To Work With Sakura Ferroalloys For Saf


BINTULU, 5 Mar - Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, emphasized the significance of Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP) within the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) initiative. 

            

"Since its inception, SIP has been a pivotal driver of economic growth in Sarawak," stated Premier Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari. "With investments totaling RM111.73 billion, including RM12.07 billion already in commercial production, SIP has generated direct employment opportunities for 9,293 individuals."

            

He continued, "Companies with an anticipated investment of RM15.66 billion are currently advancing various construction stages within SIP, indicating sustained investor confidence in the park's potential," he said during the 10th anniversary dinner of Sakura Ferroalloys at Parkcity Everly, here. 

            

Premier Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari also discussed the forthcoming Bintulu-Samalaju Gas Pipeline project, scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. This project aims to bolster gas supply distribution to SIP, benefitting facilities like the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power station, presently under construction.

            

Additionally, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg revealed the Sarawak government's willingness to collaborate with Sakura Ferroalloys (Sakura) on producing bioethanol from bamboo, offering another sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) alternative.

            

"This bamboo ethanol initiative aligns with our energy transition goals," stated Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg. "Bamboo, being renewable, presents a promising avenue for bioethanol production. We're open to working with Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) to allocate land for bamboo cultivation, expanding beyond furniture to bioethanol production."

            

Premier Abang Johari elaborated on the potential of SAF production from bamboo and algae, highlighting Sarawak's abundant resources conducive to such ventures. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of liquid ammonia as fertilizer, emphasizing the potential for domestic supply and diversification of product offerings.

            

"With domestically sourced inputs like liquid ammonia, Sarawak aims to bolster agricultural productivity while exploring SAF production avenues," Premier Abang Johari affirmed. "Collaborations with companies like Sakura Ferroalloys are pivotal in realizing Sarawak's sustainable development ambitions."
